What Was God's Intent?

I got this awesome picture in my head. It is of humanity being created to fellowship with God and be His family on earth. I got a picture of us humans having a relationship with God as children and Daddy. We exist everyday to make Him happy just by being with Him. He knew us before we were in our mothers’ wombs.

When did we go from being on this earth to hang out with God and be his family to fighting for our lives? I mean, it seems that we have gone from the pleasure of knowing Him to thinking He wants the worst for us. The picture we see of our existence is so bleak. We expect the worst out of life when that can’t be why Father, God, created us.

I know there will be persecution for His names’ sake. It has to be so because not everyone believes in Him. However, I can’t imagine He created us to struggle. Why would He do that? We work so hard to be “right” that we neglect the most important thing, being in relationship with Him. In the beginning, before sin entered the earth, man was connected to God. They walked together in the dew of the morning. That means they hung out with each other. What an awesome relationship.

It’s like me and my best friend or me and my husband. We hang out and enjoy each other’s company. We don’t have to struggle to have a relationship; it happens naturally because of the connection. I don’t believe I have to do special things to get my friends or husband to love me. They just do because of the relationship. In like wise, I do special things for them because of our relationship. I want to see the smile on their faces when I do something special for them.

I believe we spend so much time trying not to be attracted to the wiles of this world that we neglect the most important thing, hanging out with God and having a relationship. If we do, when struggles and persecution come, it’s that much more natural to stand up for what we believe in. I believe that it’s possible for His love to emanate through us in such a way that people will be drawn to Him. I also believe that His love for us can propel us to do things for Him we wouldn’t normally do just to see Him smile.

This life has inherent struggles because of the nature of humanity. If we could get back to the life God intended when he created man, we could get back to the original intent God had for us. More real than individual destiny will be our concept of existence for a purpose, pleasing Him. God, help us to see that you created us for more than persecution, poverty, and struggle. Help us to see that you created us for connection with you so that we can have everything you own at our disposal. Help us to see that the realm in which you live is more real than the land on which we stand and that unseen things govern the seen things. Help us to see your kingdom and what it means to “serve” you. Help us to understand the purpose for Christ’s dying on the cross, not so we can be persecuted, but so we can live in unison with you in relationship like you meant from the beginning.

I can't imagine what my destiny is. I have no idea. I am also aware that my destiny coincides with what God has intended for me. What I don't understand is why it is so hard for me to find out what it is. Yes I know that we have to fellowship with God and worship and blah, blah, blah... What gets me is that it is one of the hardest things to do. I need an obvious God, I need the booming voice and obvious signs. My point is that believing and knowing are two different things. I believe there is a God, but do I know there is? I just can't say. It pains me to say that. It makes me scared that I'm going to hell, but I have to be honest with myself. I guess I shouldn't say that, but it is the first time I've really been true to myself. How can I love someone I never get to see, some one that I believe is looking out for me just because my bills get paid? I wish God would make himself known like he did in the old days... "D'Nielle, I am here for you" That would be nice once in a while.

It is my ultimate dream to help people see that relating to God goes all the way back to creation. One good example is Abraham. He was raised and lived among people who had hundreds if not thousands of gods, among which was the unknown god. When God spoke to Abraham, it had to be his first encounter with a living being. God probably explained what happened and showed him how humanity came from Noah after the flood and where all the gods came from. Abraham believed him and had the first friendship with God since Adam. I think God wants us all to be a friend with him like Abraham. When we look at it like a person to person relationship, it becomes easier to relate to him. It is the relating to him that will produce the faith, hope, and everything else we are struggling with. The key will be spending time with him the same way we spend time with our human friends by means of prayer (conversations with God) and Bible reading. It also helps when we hang around others who are also his friends.
